Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is advised that everyone stays home or remains at least 6 feet apart. We understand that it’s difficult to self-quarantine, which is why we have some online game suggestions to help with the potential boredom. Besides, when life reaches normalcy again, these games will continue to keep you entertained on any given day.
These classic games continue to reign in popularity among people of all ages. So while you are taking the needed precautions during these uncertain times, consider playing the following online games: Solitaire, Jigsaw Puzzles, Sudoku, Mahjong, and Crosswords.
Solitaire, also known as Patience or Card Solitaire, is a single-player game of concentration and skill. This genre of card games can involve a set layout of the following: tiles, cards, stones, etc. It is no wonder Card Solitaire would be its name.
Now, the only bit of this game that involves chance is how the cards are laid out, but for the most part strategy is needed. To solve the card puzzle, you must sort the cards and follow the game rules. Not only is it an entertaining game but also extremely satisfying to beat!
There is a high chance that you have started or perhaps completed a Jigsaw Puzzle. But you may be wondering, “How on Earth do I play a Jigsaw Puzzle online?” There is truly an online game for everything and to make this idea even more appealing, online ones keep you from buying a new puzzle every time a puzzle is completed. Nevertheless, if you already have a puzzle in your home, there is plenty of time to play both an online and a physical one. One of the perks of online puzzles is that there are additional tips and suggestions on how to play.
The singular goal while putting together a Jigsaw Puzzle is to make sure each piece fits together to make the whole picture. Also, an added bonus to jigsaws is they strengthen both sides of your brain!
Previously known as Number Place, Sudoku features a grid of 3×3 squares and within those squares, there are 3×3 boxes. In each square, there are some visible numbers as well as boxes without numbers. In the empty boxes, you insert the respective number(s) to complete the entire square.
To complete the box, every square should have the correct number in it. This seems easy at first, but remember, you cannot repeat numbers within the same box. In each square, there can only be a singular number of 1-9. This also applies to rows and columns; no number can repeat vertically, horizontally, or should we dare say… boxically.
For a game that contains a plethora of numbers, you don’t actually need to be a math expert, so don’t let that drive you away. Since its rise to popularity in the late 1980s, Sudoku has been loved by people of all ages. Similar to Jigsaw Puzzles, you will feel accomplished and a bit smarter knowing that you solved it in its entirety.
Developed in China during the Qing dynasty, Mahjong, is popular worldwide. Mahjong is a game of tiles that involves skill, strategy, and just a bit of luck. It involves four players, but there are variants that allow three. The 144 tiles also have intricate designs of Chinese characters and symbols.
Here’s a brief rundown on how to play. All players receive 12 tiles. During each turn, the players can either draw or discard tiles until they have completed a legal hand. To do this, players use the 14th drawn tile to form melds, also known as sets or a pair. The game can also be won with special sets. If you don’t have the game lying around, or enough game members, then keep in mind you can use the internet.
As I’m sure you’re aware, crosswords are word puzzles and word search games that take place within a square. The goal of the game is to form words or phrases either vertically or horizontally. Clues are provided through sentences and/or references.
You’ll notice that some squares contain shaded areas. This makes it easier to distinguish when a word or phrase ends. To complete the puzzle, you must fill in each set of boxes with the correct word or phrases. Other words will be negatively impacted if just one word is incorrect.
If you haven’t already played a crossword puzzle, then you’re in for a treat. It’s definitely satisfying to finally figure out a row. You’re like a detective, a word detective.
